National Healthcare Decisions Day
Encouraging the public to discuss end-of-life care
Project Background
National Healthcare Decisions Day is April 16 every year. The purpose is to encourage people to think about advance care planning. A Chicago-based nonprofit asked us to help them increase awareness of this day among city residents in 2018.
Client: Life Matters Media
Our Work
Working with our follow artists in Live Action Cartoonists, we designed a site-specific live mural event at the James R. Thompson Center in downtown Chicago. In the busy atrium space, we invited people walking by to write their thoughts about different seasons of life. Our artists added illustrations based on the public’s inscriptions, ultimately creating a four-sided mural with the words Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter.

Results
The event received media coverage and hundreds of real-time interactions with the public. People who engaged with the mural were approached by volunteers from the nonprofit who talked to them about advance care planning.
